Book and Reading..............and Inspiration
Day 8 Docrafts 31 day Blog Prompt
Oh my......just lately my reading has not been that interesting. I ran out of John Grisham books......I have just finished a book written by a friend about the life of Job and I really spend most of my time in the Bible!! So, what's a girl to do??
I have also been trying to look at the Doric language, which is spoken all around where I live. In fact I speak it too. Let me give you a flavour of what I mean:
Girl (English) = quine (doric)
Hug (English) = bosie (doric)
someone who cohabits (not married - English) = bidy-in (local doric)
bottom (meaning what you sit on) (English) = doup (doric)
So you see there can be actually different words completely, so when you start reading or speaking doric it's very funny. The books I have recently read about doric, called 'A Wee bit O Doric' have old rhymes, poems, saying etc in them too.
One saying that is relevant for this month is, Dinna cast a cloot 'til the month o May is oot!' which is basically saying summer isn't here yet so keep on your winter clothes until May is over.

Sp you see I have not been reading anything romantic, fantasy or otherwise............but here is a card I made, using my language in it and on it:
This is just so short and sweet, but the sentiment, Fit a bonnie bairn, is saying, "What a lovely child you have" in English.
Reading about my heritage and language system has made me very proud of who I am and how I speak.

ReplyDeleteIt is short, and maybe that's a blessing....but it is about me and what I get up to and that's what it's supposed to be.
Thank you so much for your encouragement, I have only been blogging since February, so when someone shows an interest I find that really encouraging.
Love and hugs
