A Card for Special People

A Card for Special People

Docrafts 31 Day Blog Prompt Day 17

We were asked to make a card and dedicate it to someone: So here goes:

Okay, this is for two people, but I will explain in a minute.  I'm putting up the photos first and then I can go and finish this lying down, as my back is still poorly.

Well that didn't work, so here goes.  The card above is a wedding card for my sister and her new husband Jim.  My sister was married for 41 years to Douglas, who died very suddenly within 2 weeks of being diagnosed with cancer.  My sister was devastated, as were her two daughters and 7 grandchildren.  Douglas was 61 years old!  His death was a shock to all of us and my sister and I grew much closer during that time, and we went away together a couple of times for small holidays.  During one such break, we went to Somerset where I took my sister Margret to the places where I had lived, and to places of interest, such as the Roman Baths, which are in Bath City:  During this holiday my sister was especially fragile emotionally, and it was not the easiest of times for either of us, as I was bandaged up having ulcers on my right leg, and I had to see a district nurse every other day when away for dressings, as they were infected.

Anyhow, we had an argument in the car whilst driving through Montacute and it suddenly dawned on me that my sister was scared of having a future without Douglas or someone to share it with her.  i remember saying very bluntly, "You need a man in your life!"  I felt awful afterwards, but you can't take back what you say.

About 2 months after our return to Scotland, we had barely been in touch with each other, I assumed she was angry at me and I was ashamed of my behaviour.  I suddenly got a visit from my sister, and very shyly she said, "I took your advice!"  I have a date.  Well, I didn't know what to say.

To cut a very long story short, she had about 3 dates all widowers lined up.  One of them was a fairly local man who had been widowed a little longer than my sister.  His name?  Jim.

Eighteen months later, with the blessings of her complete family and his they were married.  The card I made in black and white because she had been through some very black times and had come out at the other end, like a shining star.

Here they are on their walk to the front of the room, still single

Here they are signing the register as Mr and Mrs.

I love happy endings.

Love and hugs
